Dear readers,
We are complicated, yet we want someone to love us.
My Love Is
My love is an ocean It's deep but dark Though blue on the surface With shine and spark And it's clean and pristine Without a mark Reality of it Is very stark My love is a forest It's big and dense Rivers, trees, and mountains It is immense Though the walk will be hard Please do commence And my love is a sky It's grand and vast But pretty clouds of day For long, won't last Those stars you see at night Are now my past -Niraj Pancholi
A note on the poem
This poem is about a person who has a lot to give in love and feel their capacity to love is limitless. And they are proud of it.
Yet, they are also aware of the ugly side of their love. They know it won’t be easy for the other person.
Why they think that?
Perhaps, because they have been in love before and have realized things about themselves that are not very attractive. Or perhaps, because they have spent enough time with their thoughts to recognize that there are sides to them that are unappealing.
Regardless, they intend to inform that to the other person. They feel it’s their responsibility.
Yet, deep down they hope to be accepted, to be loved, despite their shortcomings.
But when is the right time for that?
Sometimes we share our complexity in the beginning of a relationship, and sometimes we wait till more trust is built.
It’s a risk to open up. Risk of rejection. Risk of humiliation.
But the bigger risk would be to hide it and hurt the other person.
Love is a snowball rolling down the mountain of a relationship. It will pick up things along the way. Good, bad, and ugly.
A question for you: Is it better to open up about your shortcomings in the beginning of a relationship? Or is it better to wait till more trust is built? I’d love to know your thoughts in the comments.
